The St. James Theatre opened in 1927 as Erlanger's Theatre, named for booking agent Abraham Erlanger. It was renamed the St. James in 1932, after the London theatre of the same name. In 2001, the St. James production of The Producers set box office records for single-day sales, introduced ‘premium’ seating, and won an unprecedented 12 Tonys.
Direct from two critically acclaimed sold-out productions, the New York Times Critic’s Pick Illinoise is transferring to Broadway for 16 weeks only. Based on the landmark Sufjan Stevens album, Illinoise is directed and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Justin Peck. Don’t miss this limited Broadway engagement.
SYNOPSIS:Based on the landmark Sufjan Stevens album, Illinoise is told through live music performed by an 11-member band, three vocalists and impressionistic choreography. As friends gather around a campfire, sharing stories of first love, grief and growing up, director and choreographer Justin Peck and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury craft an experience that bursts with feeling.
