The Todd Haimes Theatre opened as the Selwyn Theatre in 1918, named for its producers Edgar and Arch Selwyn. After functioning as a grindhouse since the Depression, the Selwyn Theatre was fully restored in 2000 by the Roundabout Theatre Company and renamed the American Airlines Theatre. The theatre was renamed the Todd Haimes Theatre in 2024 in honor of Roundabout's late President and CEO.
In this Tony Award®-nominated play, Cephus Miles has the whole world in his callused hands—until his sweetheart Pattie Mae goes off to college and marries another man. Originally staged by the Negro Ensemble Company in 1979, and featured in the first year of Roundabout’s Refocus Project, Samm-Art Williams’ Home is a muscular and melodic coming-of-age story that gives voice to the unbreakable spirit of all Americans who have been searching for a place to belong. Kenny Leon (A Soldier’s Play) directs.
SYNOPSIS:A black Southern farmer is thrown in jail for opposing the Vietnam draft and later moves up North only to experience further difficulties, before finally returning to the comforts of home and family.
